Hiker Trash Holiday Gift Guide

A different kind of Snuggles Diary…

Since the holidays are just down the trail, I thought I would put together a list of fellow hiker trash who have some awesome items for sale along with a few shameless plugs of my own…The below items would be great gifts for the hiker in your life or just for you! Just follow the links to get updated information and prices on each!

For the Bookworm Hiker:

Dixie over at Homemadewanderlust.com has written “Take a Thru-Hike: Dixie’s How-To Guide for Hiking the Appalachian Trail” – http://amzn.to/2yTFiZ0 I personally have not read her book but have heard lots of good stuff about it! I am confident it is awesome!

Jeffrey “Loner” Gray gives great hiker perspectives on going ultralight and hammocking along with AT history with “Painted Blazes: Hiking the Appalachian Trail with Loner” – http://amzn.to/2yTTFwa

Rev. Kane over at the Ministry of Happiness has written “Appalachian Trail Happiness” – http://amzn.to/2hzw3pJ  Rev. Kane is a personal hiker friend having met him out on the AT in 2015. He has a great outlook on life and I can only imagine his book reflects the same!

Sarah with Biking or Barefoot wrote a great book on her experiences during a bike race of the Arizona Trail (AZT). This is a very different perspective on how to enjoy a trail besides on foot – http://amzn.to/2hMmE1F

For The Fancy Hiker:

Chica is selling some awesome hiker “Arm Candy”! I have some arm candy of my own and LOVE it! A full range of color and styles to pick from!

Darwin & I have some neat-o trail inspired necklaces and NEW key chains over at Travel&Trail featuring the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, Continental Divide Trail, and Arizona Trail.

For The Decorative Hiker:

Between The Blazes has created some super sweet White Blaze AT Ornaments and Handcrafted Katahdin Signs. Some of the proceeds from your purchase will go back to the Appalachian Trail!

Shameless Plug:

If you find yourself buying off Amazon you can use Darwin’s special link! If you shop on Amazon using his link anything you buy (outdoor related or not) will provide us a small commission at no additional cost to you! Some of the links featured in this blog are already using this special link. Here is another one using a random item on Amazon  http://amzn.to/2zTEIxt Use the link and start shopping using the search bar and wha-la! You are helping us to continue to create media for you! Thank you!

The below are a few gear picks from both Darwin and I that we feel would be great gift ideas for your beloved hiker. Most of the items below are great pieces of gear or accessories that won’t break the bank! Enjoy!

Snuggles’ Picks:

BUFF: A piece of gear with tons of uses! Use it to pull your hair back, cover your ears, cover your face, use as pot/mug holder, use as a wash-cloth, neck gaiter, the possibilities are endless! I will never hike without mine! – http://amzn.to/2B2MtiM

DIRTY GIRL GAITERS: Another piece of gear I will not hike or trail run without! The Dirty Girl Gaiter keeps a lot of the crud outta my boots or shoes and they come in a TON of different designs!

TENTLAB’S DEUCE OF SPADES TROWEL: I have always dug a cat-hole but in order to promote the idea of Leave No Trace Principles, I have started carrying the Deuce. It does make digging a hole easier and faster which is great for those “adult emergency” moments. – http://amzn.to/2hQokHz

DARN TOUGH SOCKS: My feet are sweaty no matter what the weather. Darn Toughs help keep them slightly less sweaty and are like their namesake “darn tough”. If you do manage to wear these guys out send them back or turn them in to an outfitter that carries the brand and swap them out for a new pair, no questions asked! – http://amzn.to/2yYhp2p

Darwin’s Picks:

ASS PAD: If you watch any of his videos, you know he loves his ass pad (aka Therma-Rest Z-Seat).  I have to admit, I didn’t carry one at first but it wasn’t long until I discovered how much I appreciate a dry comfortable seat that only an Ass Pad can provide out on the trail! – http://amzn.to/2hC2rbf

BRS STOVE: Although he is into cold-soaking, Darwin still picked the BRS Stove. When not in cold-soak mode, this is a go to for him. – http://amzn.to/2zS0rWT

CNOC CARBON CORK TREKKING POLES: Darwin swears by these poles! They are pretty darn light weight and super fun to watch being set up/packed up. They totally remind me of those collapsing thumb toys! – http://amzn.to/2AgLYVa

TREKOLOGY UL BACKPACKING PILLOW: A cheaper alternative to the Sea to Summit version the Trekology has served both of us well (Yes, I started carrying a pillow too.) Darwin will not leave for any backpacking trip without his! – http://amzn.to/2zW2KG6

Things To Expect In Up Coming Blog Posts/Website Posts And Other Doings:

Lots of Interviews lately! Darwin & I both were invited on to Misfits and Rejects hosted by Chapin Kreuter for an interview! Chapin uses this podcast to talk with expatriates, travelers, etc to hear about how they started and why they keep doing what they’re doing. It breaks up a bit and we were more than a little nervous but it was totally fun! Listen to us ramble (me especially) Here!

I recently was interviewed by another blogger Sarah Ruth Jansen! You can check out this written interview by clicking HERE!

  2. Just bought the pillow after watching Darwin’s video about it and I love it! And I’ve used the Deuse for years; lightest, best trowel I’ve ever used. Happy Holidays! 😎👣. Oh, and have read Loner’s book — enjoyable And a good channel to watch as well. 🦃🎄.
